This is the best commentary I have read on temple worship. You will want to find the treasures again! I have tried to read it cover to cover and didn’t finish.

It took quite a long time for me to finish this book.

It is so very worthwhile. John the Baptist and his message, and the birth and baptism of Jesus. Edersheim’s deep devotion to the authority of the Scriptures, his ability to make the Scriptures come alive in their ancient context, and his encyclopedic familiarity with ancient Jewish sources all enrich this classic and timeless work.

I haven’t gotten to that part of the book but I can see it clearly even now. I would highly recommend the book. It is meaningful because I am a Gentile believer and follower of Yeshua.

The value in this study is to learn the culture, geographic, political, and tradition setting of the Jews in Jerusalem during the time Jesus Christ lived in that area. Even though it is very detailed, the narrative flowed in an orderly fashion and I found myself intrigued by the descriptions of the various events. Book 1 “The Preparation for the Gospel” Introductory historical, religious, political, and cultural material based on the author’s extensive knowledge of Jewish lore and customs.

This book has credible answers to questions we have wondered about all our Christian lives. I don’t think that anyone, not even ‘scholars’ can get it all, but every insight is faith building. This book is quite an undertaking to read.

There are a metric ton of abbreviations in every chapter, and I found myself skimming over portions because they were made unwieldy to read.

I enjoyed this book e-book very much.

This classic work successfully portrays the streets, the marketplaces, the religious conflicts, the people, and the places of Jesus’ earthly ministry. There is an Active Table of Contents with Illistrations all at a very affordable price. This is a rather famous reference book, NOT a “story of Jesus” per se.

Almost all of the material can be found in other Judaic texts. The shepherds who tended it were considered banned from Temple worship by the priests esersheim they of necessity couldn’t keep the Law and these are the very ones to whom the First Advent was announced!!!!
