While her matchmaking mama is picking out suitable husbands, Sophia has met her Prince Charming James Langon. Substance to the story and building of the relationship was better than most. It’s also a tale that isn’t silly in the least; both of the main characters have emotional issues of their past that MacLean handles well, and not just in the deus ex machina way that most authors resort to when they write themselves into a corner.
Likewise, Martin’s scouhdrel and his past have caused him to be the opposite. MacLean’s Usual Vibrant Characters. I liked these people.

New to Old Pub Date: Lord Martin Langdon takes pride in his scandalous reputation as a scoundrel, and he considers the art of seduction a most rewarding pastime. They suit a 21st century romantic drama better. Especially from a man like him, who knew how to seduce and did so on a regular basis. Very candid and mature, which is a nice change of pace from the usual silly misunderstandings.
Mild srrender to clean pages with tight binding. It’s not one of my worst, that’s for sure; but isn’t of my favourites either. Surrender to a Scoundrel is no different.
Silly dialogue is kept to a minimum, there are plenty of little details about sailing — a sport that I enjoy learning about, the lives of the rich, a few appearances by actual folks who lived in the time, and usrrender, several characters from her earlier novels in this series make a return, but don’t hog the story.
The wallflower that has always been Evelyn follows her into adulthood. Will the reader care by the end? Summary Discuss Reviews 1 No woman can resist him. The story then moves ahead years later to Crowes Week. Martin’s seduction eventually wears Evelyn down and they become passionate lovers. Especially the dialogues and scene sets – they are soooo cheesy, hollowly romantic and unbelievable.
The setting – in and around a major yacht race on the Isle of Wight – maclran also a refreshing change from the strolls in Hyde Park and escapes to country manors that are typical of this drama. Shows some signs of wear, and may have some markings on the inside. Though this wasn’t the most extraordinary read, I have to say that it was easy to read and kept me interested. I think this is the first thing I’ve come across that’s set in the Isle of Wight and the yacht racing culture of the period.

Julianne MacLean fell in love with some of the classic romances— Jane EyreWuthering Heightsand Pride and Prejudice —while completing her degree in English literature. No woman can resist him. In previous books it seemed that the author was unable to create worthwhile angst without have the characters act rather juvenile and over-emotional.
