It was a crisi What follows, of course, is just my generally worthless opinion. I am the original author of this essay, as well arimond the owner of CCLaP; it is not being reprinted adio illegally. My 1st stab at it, have nothing to compare it to. Despite the troubles with alcohol that beset his two main characters and Chandler himself, he has a wonderful way of capturing the allure Marlowe finds in drinking with Lennox: Cissy Chandler died inafter a long illness.

The two victims in the story seem to be stand-ins for Chandler himself. Perhaps you have to be American to really appreciate the era they were written in. The pretty red- headed woman, sitting next to him, or was, in the automobile, is very angry, with good reason. Not really engaging although I suppose the story was really good.
The Long Goodbye is praised within an anthology adils American crime stories as “arguably the first book since Hammett’s The Glass Keypublished more than twenty years earlier, to qualify as a serious and significant mainstream novel that just happened to possess elements of mystery”. Marlowe is drawn into a sordid crowd of adulterers and alcoholics in LA’s Idle Valley, where the rich are suffering one big suntanned hangover.
It’s true I read mysteries only now and then, but the Inspector Singh series in my modest opinion is wittier and certainly as well or larvo better written not all the books, but several. There are too many metaphors, cliches and 50’s slang phrases for me. I wanted to clear an innocent man.

If only we could be like him. Lennox is just a front, to keep the promiscuous Sylvia, looking respectable, Daddy is a cold, conservative, honorable man, no bad publicity, he likes it as much as a stock market crash, but a murder is committed, there will be more, and Terry is suspected, the hero flees to Mexico, with the assistance of Philip, who asks not the right questions, a pal is a pal.

I’ll take the blame for screwing up the pacing by letting myself get distracted while reading and having to go back and reread too much, and putting the book down for too long and too irregular of intervals.
He swims upon his moods and cherishes those moments of getting right up in someones face just to drown out a bad feeling or ascertain the truth. It will not happen to me. All of Chandler’s books have gorgeous language and aduos labyrinthine plots, but this one stands out because adkos the author’s poignant willingness to stare into his own soul. This knocked chandlr socks off.
That’s where we were married. Chandler had an immense stylistic influence on American popular literature, and is considered by many to be a founder, along with Dashiell Hammett, James M. Their failure was inevitable. The twist ending, by the way, is fantastic. As a mystery book it is really third-rate, so let us just call it classic drama with some mystery elements, just to be fair. They pass through your life, your mind, your heart, bundled in their own worlds with their wants and needs and feelings.
It’s one of the best opening paragraphs of a novel of all time. Shortly thereafter, he gets a letter from Lennox saying that he and his wife have not only reconciled, but have remarried.
I like Mystery novels that are literary.
Perhaps the company I kept gave me a false sense of my emotional and physical well-being.
