Chapter 5 has been reorganized and streamlined in a big way, accounting for the ubiquity of switched Ethernet in local area networks and the consequent increased use of Ethernet in point-to-point scenarios. Yet if you’re into more technical stuff or network management geeky specification stuff this just isn’t for you.

While still explicitly exposing the key ideas behind the socket API, Python code is easier to understand for the novice programmer. For me, this textbook was a pretty dry read and I sometimes had trouble pushing through the weekly reading assignments. Sep 04, Pham Nghia rated it comluter was amazing.

I think one of the best parts of this textbook were the Wireshark labs netwokr the companion website, which my professor used for some of our assignments. It is very difficult to teach communications while traversing the protocol stack from top to bottom! A balanced presentation focuses on the Internet as a specific motivating example of a network and also introduces students to protocols in a more theoretical context. He has worked in peer-to-peer networking, Internet measurement, video streaming, Web caching, multi-service loss networks, content distribution networks, voice over IP, optimization, queuing theory, optimal control of queues, and Markov decision processes.

Chapter 5 covers the control plane functions of the network layer—the network-wide logic that controls how a datagram is routed along an end-to-end path of routers from the source host to the destination host. For Purchase and Rent Kno: The approach conputer the Application layer downwards was just the right one for me.
