I was real edified by the contents. It’s an episodic meditation, because Kane wrote this book over ten years, as he did go through many of the events we follow in the book. If possible, verify the text with references provided in the foreign-language article. cheijh

Ultimately it is unclear to me that a sense of spiritual loss coming from a former ruling elite after they are dispossessed is particularly interesting. One of his questions that really made me think was whether his doubts and struggles were just a part of him growing up or were part of a larger struggle for his people and his faith.

I also reject the portrayal of the Native society as homogenous in their religious beliefs and contentment. This novel is about a Senegalese man’s experiences in France. She draws on the analogy of ploughing up fields and burning them which they do every year as the rainy season approaches, and she calls on the citizens to do this with the children, their future.
